Do you want to park for an extended time during your discovery tour of Willemstad or elsewhere in greater Moerdijk? You can park your car free of charge in the designated areas throughout greater Moerdijk. In Willemstad and Zevenbergen, however, so-called blue zones have been set up. Below, you can read exactly how these zones work.
Parking in the fortified town of Willemstad
Within the Willemstad fortress, most parking places fall under the parking disc zone (‘blue zone’). This applies throughout the year, on Thursdays to Sundays from 11.00 to 21.00 hrs. Visitors who park in the fortress within these window times may do so for a maximum of 2 hours. To show when you are parked, use a blue disk. This is available at the town hall in Zevenbergen or at various shops in the area.
Would you like to park at the fortress for more than 2 hours or you do not have a blue parking disc? Use the ample parking spaces on Hellegatsweg and Lantaarndijk just outside the fortress. These parking lots are a 5-minute walk from the center and, like all other parking spaces in and around the fortress, they are free of charge. For motorcycles, there is special parking inside the fortress at Benedenkade.
Driving through the Willemstad fortress
From Monday to Friday, passer-by drivers are always free to drive through the fortress, unless a large-scale event takes place. On Sundays and public holidays, the fortress is ‘closed’ between 1 March and 1 November from 13.00 to 17.00 hrs. Only residents with an exemption pass have free access to the fortress. The declaration also applies to berth holders.
Accessibility Willemstad during events
The Willemstad fortress regularly forms the setting for large-scale events. In addition, the fortress itself is often completely closed to traffic. To provide a parking space for the large stream of visitors, we also use the parking spaces near the Volkerak waterway locks during these days. A shuttle bus, provided by the municipality of Moerdijk, will take you to and from the fortress. Please follow crew member instructions.
Arriving in Willemstad by boat? That is possible too! Ferry ‘De Anna’ and the ‘Haringvliet Express’ sail to and from Willemstad during events according to their regular timetable.
Parking in Zevenbergen
As long as the digging activities for the Zevenbergen harbor in the center last, the blue zone has been extended and adapted here. The maximum parking duration is 2 hours in the blue zone. To show when you are parked, use a blue parking disc. This is available at the town hall or at various shops in the city.
You can park your car free of charge all day at the long-term parking lot in the city center, e.g., at ‘Kasteeltuin’ or at the beginning of Kerkstraat.
