Frequently asked questions

Can I also reach Visit Willemstad by phone?

No, unfortunately, that is not yet possible. During opening hours, you can visit the locations of the VVV I points and the Mauritshuis visitor center. You can also reach us by e-mail. In the meantime, we are looking for a solution that will help you even better in the future.

On what days is Willemstad fortified city closed to traffic?

In Willemstad, a ‘declaration of closure’ applies to the fortress on Sundays and public holidays from 13:00 to 17:00 hrs between 1 March and 1 November. Residents with an exemption pass have free access to the fortress only.

Attention: The parking disc zone (‘blue zone’) applies to Willemstad all year round, from Thursday to Sunday from 11.00 to 21.00 hrs. Visitors who park in the fortress within these window times may do so for a maximum of 2 hours. More information can be found on our Parking page.

Is an excursion to the Volkerak waterway locks possible?

No, not via the tourism center in greater Moerdijk. However, if you would like to investigate whether an excursion is possible, please contact the Ministry for Public Works and Water Management. In the meantime, you can view the complex from the Haringvliet Bridge and the observation tower at Hellegatsweg (Willemstad), which you can visit free of charge.

Am I allowed to fish around all waters in Willemstad and the surrounding area?

Officially, you are only allowed to fish in ‘our’ waters if you possess a Dutch national fishing pass and a permit issued by the local fishing association. You can apply for a weekly permit so that you can fish undisturbed for a week.
